One Tree Planted is a 501 (c) (3) charitable organization that endeavors to improve reforestation globally. They plant trees on four continents for the following reasons: to replace timber, pulp and paper; improve biodiversity; aid in forest fire recovery; reduce CO2; fight climate change; clean the air; prevent soil erosion; clean water; reduce storms, flooding and landslides; create jobs; provide food to communities; promote health and protect endangered species. Their mission is to communicate the importance of trees and offer global communities accessibility to reforestation efforts. One Tree Planted is funded by and founded upon individuals, schools, and businesses who either donate, partner with or volunteer to help the cause. One Tree Planted offers various ways to get involved and the organization works with other groups, including the United States Forest Service (USFS), several State Forest Services and Regional Conservation Districts, to make this happen.
One Tree Planted: What They Aim to Solve
Since its start in 2014, One Tree Planted has planted 1.75 million trees across 4 regions of the world. Their reforestation projects are located in: North America - USA (United States Forest Service, California, Colorado, Florida, Oregon), Canada (British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec), Mexico; South America - Peru, Brazil (Amazon Rainforest), Guatemala, Haiti, Bolivia, Colombia; Africa - Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Ghana; Asia - Indonesia, India, Philippines, Vietnam; and Australia.
One Tree Planted focuses on the interconnected benefits of planting trees, which is laid out by their six pillars: Air, Water, Biodiversity, Social Impact, Health and Climate. The company explains, “Trees help clean the air we breathe, filter the water we drink, and provide habitat to over 80 percent of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs to over 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere, and are key ingredients in 25 percent of all medicines”.
While their primary focus is planting trees where needed most, One Tree Planted recognizes that their mission is part of a larger one. Not only is it necessary to protect existing forests AND plant new ones to create a net positive global benefit, but it’s also important for us to understand that awareness, education, public involvement, research, creativity, inspirational leadership, and community-based initiatives are interconnected components of a greater mission. If we want to create a greener world, we’ll need to work together: hence, the inception of our partnership.

About Eco-Lux®/Our BedInABox® Sustainability Story
One of the great things about our community at BedInABox® is how we have created a model and system of sustainability that is congruent with our typical mattress production process. Our system uses sustainably sourced materials and ingredients, our mattresses are responsibly manufactured and packaged, and our company gives back. It is important to our team to make a positive environmental impact and to continuously improve our sustainability initiatives.
The perfect testimony to our sustainable mission is our Eco-Lux® mattress. The Eco-Lux® mattress is the only Bio-Preferred® certified memory foam mattress certified to contain 34% renewable content - meaning 34% of the mattress is made with renewable materials. The Eco-Lux® is constructed only with foam that meets the USDA BioPreferred Certification and remains the ONLY memory foam mattress with this designation.
As highlighted in our sustainability blog story, the goal of the Bio-Preferred Program, managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), is to increase the purchase and use of biobased products. Biobased products are derived from plants and other renewable agricultural, marine, and forestry materials and provide an alternative to conventional petroleum derived products. Bio-Preferred is both a component certification and an overall certification. Thus, with the USDA BioPreferred Certification, BedInABox® guarantees that all foam we use in our Eco-Lux® mattress AND the Eco-Lux® bed as a whole are USDA Bio-Preferred certified.
