Pros and Cons of Memory Foam Mattresses

If you are not sleeping on a memory foam mattress, are you even sleeping? Memory foam mattresses have taken the mattress industry by storm. They are durable, flexible and relieve pressure (especially the high quality memory foam mattresses). Memory foam mattresses are what helped BedInABox®, and mattress companies of the like, make the mattress-in-a-box delivery breakthrough for the industry. So not only are memory foam mattress comfortable, plush, and supportive, they can be packed and folded into boxes small enough to ship through standard ground service mail. Now that is what we call high-quality sleep.

BedInaBox -- Pros and Cons of Memory Foam Mattress

Pros of High-Quality Memory Foam Mattresses

There are infinitely more pros than cons when it comes to buying a memory foam mattress, especially if you invest in a mattress made from high quality memory foam like the stuff we produce for our mattresses at BedInABox®. From comfortable sleep to longer-than-normal mattress life, memory foam mattresses have a lot to offer.

Comfort

As a material, memory foam is known for its ability to recover. This makes designing mattresses that provide both substantial support and relief from pressure points a lot more efficient. It is no secret that memory foam gets a bad rap for sleeping hot, though, so we have spent many years mastering how to infuse cooling technologies into our foams to provide temperature regulation while you sleep.

Perfect for Adjustable Beds

Memory foam mattresses are one of the most preferred mattresses for adjustable beds thanks to their high level of flexibility and great response to pressure. Memory foam mattresses easily bend and return to their original form without compromising the quality and construction of the mattress. While other mattress constructions may be compatible with adjustable bed frames, more often than not, if it is not a memory foam or hybrid mattress, it will need to be designed specifically for adjustable bed use.

Durability

BedInABox® memory foam mattresses are exceptionally durable and long lasting, especially since they are constructed with such high-quality, American-made memory foam. The average life of a memory foam mattress ranges from 5-8 years, but BedInABox® mattresses tend to outlast many of those other brands. We even stand behind our mattresses with a 10 or 20 year warranty (depending on the mattress model), because we will not cut corners on the quality of your sleep.

Health Benefits

Memory foam mattresses are also known to help prevent or provide relief from a variety of health conditions. Given that adjustable beds also provide similar relief, a memory foam mattress perfectly complements an adjustable bed to provide comfortable and healthy sleep.

Safe, High Quality Materials

One of the best ways to ensure that your memory foam mattress is made with safe and high quality materials is by making sure that every component of your mattress is made in the USA (like we do here at BedInABox®). There are several quality certifications you should keep an eye out for when buying a mattress, too. Imported memory foam mattresses or mattresses made from imported foam are less likely to be safe and certified and more likely to be constructed with cheaper, potentially hazardous materials..

The CertiPUR-US® certification, one of the more common certifications in the mattress industry, applies to the memory foams used to build mattresses. This certification guarantees that the certified memory foam has been tested for content, durability and emissions. All BedInABox® mattresses are made with CertiPUR-US® certified memory foams.

The USDA Bio-Preferred certification addresses the percentage of a product made from renewable materials. The BedInABox® Eco-Lux® mattress is the only mattress on the market that holds this certification. Bio-Preferred is both a component certification and an overall certification, based on demonstrated used of biobased materials. Thus, with the USDA BioPreferred Certification, BedInABox® can assure you that all foam we use in the Eco-Lux® is Bio-Preferred AND the Eco-Lux™ bed as a whole is USDA Bio-Preferred certified.

Made In the USA

Unfortunately, not all memory foam mattresses or memory foam is made the USA. While many of our competitors do not make their mattresses or their memory foam in the USA, BedInABox® proudly makes both under the same roof at our facility in North Carolina. We take pride in the quality of our products, which is why always have and always will make every component of our mattresses in the USA.

Cons of Low-Quality Memory Foam Mattresses

Contrary to all of the benefits of sleeping on a memory foam mattress, there can be a few not so pleasant things, especially if you make the mistake of buying a mattress made from cheap or imported memory foam.

Harmful Chemicals

Memory foam mattresses made with low-quality, imported memory foam that is not CertiPUR-US® certified may actually contain harmful chemicals. As a result, these inexpensive mattresses may actually be harmful to sleep on because there is no transparency about the safety or quality of the materials used to construct it.

Low Quality Imported Mattresses

Believe it or  not, there are brands that import their mattresses or their memory foam from in order to cut costs or sell cheaper products. Memory foam mattresses constructed from lower quality imported foam are much more likely to sleep uncomfortably or start breaking down within a much shorter frame of time. This is true even for brands who assemble memory foam mattresses in the USA. When the phrase “assembled in the USA” is used, this often means assembled with imported products.

Most consumers think about the tradeoffs between quality and affordability when they make purchases, especially higher price-point purchases. At first, it may be tempting to purchase an inexpensive memory foam mattress to save money, but these cheaper, lower quality mattresses simply do not meet the high standards that American consumers expect and deserve. Cheap memory foam mattresses will wear more quickly, break down much sooner, could potentially be made with materials harmful to your health.

Conclusion

All in all, memory foam mattresses are life changers, especially if you buy a high-quality, American made mattress. When you buy BedInABox® memory foam mattresses, you can rest easy knowing that our mattresses are safe, certified and made with high-quality materials made entirely in the United States. You sleep better when you know exactly what you are sleeping on, and so do we.
